Fern Kanter possesses almost 40 years of experience in hospitality which spans many facets of hotel operation and investment, with proven expertise in strategic planning, acquisition/investment, asset management and development programming for existing and planned visitor-based real estate. She has been involved with a number of master planned developments, covering a variety of land uses including hotels, residential (primary and secondary housing), vacation ownership, retail, spas, marinas, golf courses, and other ancillary uses.
As Managing Director and Executive Vice President at CHMWarnick, Fern works with various hotel management teams in developing strategies to improve performance and achieve ownership investment objectives. In addition, she has been instrumental in overseeing the development of a Business Intelligence platform to support asset management efforts. Fern has also managed due diligence teams to help clients underwrite acquisitions and prepare for the disposition of assets.
In 2018, Fern was named to Hotel Management’s List of Influential Women in Hospitality. Fern is a founding member of ULI’s WLI, past co-chair ULI Boston District Council WLI, past member of ULI Boston Market Council, and currently serving as Vice-Chair on ULI’s National Recreational Development Council. She has spoken at hotel investment conferences, including UCLA, NYU, ALIS and CHA, and co-authored a chapter entitled, “Negotiating the Hotel Management Contract” for AHLA’s Educational Institute.
Fern also founded Boston’s 5th Gear Shift, a weekend workshop to prepare graduating women embarking upon careers in Hospitality, and is Founder and Chair of Castell’s Castell @ College initiative. She received a MBA from the University of Miami and a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY-Albany.
